New Year in New York 2002

Well this was my first New Year in the City that never sleeps, I arrived on Virgin Atlantic's VS 001 flight, the day before, the groups arrived.
I managed to get a lot of things ready for the next day, such as getting New York City Maps, times of the New Years Day parade and New Years Eve menus from the hotel and surrounding restaurants.

The next day it was up early to get things ready and then off to the airport at Newark to meet the 1st of 2 Group's, arriving on Continental Airlines flights, one from Birmingham and the other from Glasgow, they arrived pretty well together and once everyone was through and into the arrivals hall I called the coach and we set off for New York City. Once I had all the guests checked in at the Hotel Roosevelt, and answered any questions, I again set off to the airport, this time to JFK to meet the British Airways flight, again returning with them, but on this occasion I had all the room keys with me and had handed them out on the journey from JFK.
I think nearly everybody was going to take my advise and visit the Empire State Building, whilst I again returned to Newark Airport, via the subway and train system to meet my final group flying with Virgin Atlantic from Heathrow.

Once I had arrived at the hotel with this final group, I stayed in reception for 1 hour, in case of any questions and then retired to my room for the night.

On New Years Eve's morning, I operated a City Tour, taking in many of the sights, before the streets started to close around Times Square in preparation for New Yorks final party of the year and of course its first party of the year.

Everybody on the tour really enjoyed New Year in New York, and it seemed that although many went to Times Square, there were others that watched the firework display over the Hudson River or enjoyed a meal in downtown New York, some even upgraded their rooms to suites and enjoyed a meal for 2 in their own private dining room.

And Me, well, I had one drink with the hotel staff and watched the Ball Drop on the TV in my room.

So goodbye 2002 and Welcome to 2003

It really is “A PEOPLE THING”
