Milford Sound
The highlight of the Tour programme has to be the excursion to Milford Sound, the journey by Glass Roofed coach, takes you past some wonderful scenery, as the Milford Road is a fantastic alpine drive. It takes around 3 hours to get from Te Anau to Milford Sound, and once you enter the Fiordland National Park, the scenery just gets better and better every turn of the corner. The road takes us through the Eglington Valley to the “Mirror Lakes”, the reflections are not to be missed, and then past the “disappearing Mountain”.
Driving through the Hollyford Valley to the Homer Tunnel is relaxing, the tunnel is a man made tunnel cut out of the rock wall, the sight of the scenery, as you emerge into the Cleddau Valley brings gasps from the people on board the coach.
Once at Milford Sound we board the boat for our journey, and once the boat sets sail, Buffet lunch is served, as you enjoy lunch, the scenery takes your breath away. As the boat makes its way along the Sound, Dolphins swim by and under the boat and play only feet away, the on board commentary is both informative and fun, it really is an excellent tour of the sound. After the boat trip, I travel back with the coach to Queenstown, but others, either take an aircraft or helicopter flight to Queenstown, those taking the helicopter land on the Glacier for photo’s, on their way back to the hotel.
