Here in Wexford are the quays and over the last 1000 years they have been extended from their original shoreline. A decked area provides a pleasant place to stroll along.
Crescent quay is the former “Deep Pool” of Wexford where ships were moored for repairs. The bronze statue that faces out to sea is that of Commodore John Barry, “Father of the American Navy”. Barry was born outside of Wexford town. The statue was gift from the American people in 1956. U.S. Presidents, Eisenhower and Kennedy are among the dignitaries who have laid wreaths here to commemorate Irish and American mariners.
Wexford’s Main Street is the main shopping street, it’s narrow irregular path, winds past the shops and is typical Irish town layout.
Other places to visit are the Church of Assumption in Bride Street, County Hall and the Redmond Monument.
