The Ring of Kerry provides an insight into the ancient heritage of Ireland.
Starting the tour of The Ring Of Kerry, we travel out from Killarney to Killorglin, before we cross the river we get a look at the "king Puck", it’s a statue of a goat, that’s because Killorglin is famous for the Puck Fair that happens each year in this town. From here we head out through the town past the market square and stop for a coffee, maybe an Irish Coffee at theRed Fox pub, here they have a recreation of a Bog Village, for a small charge the group has the chance to visit the housesand smell the turf fires burning, here you can also see the Kerry Bog Ponies, the ponies have been here for a few years and are now being bred, giving the group the chance to see them in a setting that was common in this area. Once the stop is over, we head out with some stunning views over the Dingle Peninsular, we travel past Kells and onto Cahersiveen, we travel ontoWaterville (An CoireÁn) “The Little Whirlpool”. The Butlers Arms Hotel here in Waterville is one of Irelands best known,Charlie Chaplin and his Family, used to stay every year, over the years many other celebrities have stayed including, Walt Disney, Bob Hope, Michael Douglas and Katherine Zeta Jones and the sporting legend Tiger Woods.
Travelling on from Waterville, we climb to the viewpoint and make our way for lunch at the Scarriff Inn, it really does have the best view, it overlooks Derrynane Bay, after lunch we continue onto Caherdaniel, The home of Daniel O’Connell (1775 – 1847), famed as “The Liberator”, is here and is now a museum, it contains many of his personal belongings as well as his famed Triumpant Carriage. This part of the Ring of Kerry is considered to be the most beautiful. We then head onto and through Sneem, before continuing to Molls Gap, time for another coffee and a little shopping, then onto Ladies View, from this point you get a wonderful view of the Lakes of Killarney, the final part of the tour, takes us along the edge of the lakes before passing Muckross House and Gardens and arriving back into Killarney.
