Killarney is known as the gateway to the "Ring of Kerry". The name Killarney means the "Church of the Sloes" and it has been Irelands top tourist town for many years, with only Dublin beating it in recent times. When I bring groups to here they always remark on how clean and attractive the town is. Whilst here there is lots to see and do, in the town there are fine restaurants, gift shops and traditional pubs, if fact quite a few pubs.
During the year there are many festivals, St Patricks Day, Lake Regattas, Music Festivals and Horseracing, at the end of the year is the Christmas in Killarney Festival.
The traditional way to enjoy Killarney is by Jaunting Car, in the company of your “Jarvey” (driver / guide), they will take you to all the local beauty spots and spin you some old story to keep you amused, this of course adds to the fun. Tours include, The Lakes, Ross Castle, Muckross House, Torc Waterfall, in fact anywhere you may want to visit around the town. No visit to Killarney is complete without a boat trip, I take the groups on the luxury all-weather Lake Cruisers, maybe stopping at Inisfallen Island with its monastic ruins from the 11th Century.
So with so much to see and do, Killarney is the ideal base for tours in the local area.
