Dublin has two completely different names in the Irish Language, Dubh Linn and Baile Atha Cliath. The last name means“Ford of the Reed Hurdles” and the name Dublin is derived from the Old Gaelic Dubh Linn, which when translated means“Black Pool”.
Dublin has lots to offer the visitor and the best way to see it is on a City Tour, during the tour I take the group to see many of the sights, O’ Connell Street, the River Liffey, Phoenix Park to see the official homes of the President of Ireland and also the American Ambassador, whilst we are in the park we also get the chance to spot deer roaming freely. Some of the group visit the zoo or just enjoy a stroll around, it was in this park that the Pope John Paul 11 held a mass when he visited the city. We also see Trinity College, famous for housing the Book of Kells in its library, we also see Christ Church Cathedral, the Guinness Storehouse, National Museum of Ireland, St Stevens Green, Temple Bar and the Custom House to name but a few. One thing that is worth thinking about is that Dublin’s O’ Connell Bridge that covers the famed River Liffey is reconed to be the only bridge in the European continent that has the same width as its length!
On some of the tours I stay in Dublin itself using a selection of hotels around the city that suit all tastes, whilst on other tours I bring the group’s in for the day.
Whatever time you spend in Dublin and whatever time of year, you’ll certainly be made welcome!
