Christmas in Austria
Christmas in Austria is lovely, when I stay here, it really does have a Christmas feel.
The carol \"Silent Night\" was first sung in the village of Oberndorf in 1818.
In Austria, the traditional Christmas dinner is Baked Carp, although each time I’ve spent Christmas here we have all enjoyed Turkey and Pork.
On December 24th, presents are given to the children and the tree is decorated. The whole family will go to Midnight Mass.
December the 6th is when St Nicholas (Heiliger Nikolaus), rewards good children with sweets and nuts.
During the many times I have spent Christmas in Austria, I like to take the holiday makers into Salzburg on Christmas Eve, at this time of the year, the Christmas market is in full swing by the Cathedral.
All of the groups that I take to Austria enjoy a horse drawn sleigh ride, I always like to make sure the guests get a great experience, so arrange for the sleighs to have Schnapps on board to keep everyone’s \"sprits\" up, and to go into the wooded area’s where the snow is in better condition.
In the evenings if anyone wants to try their hand at winter activities, I organise Curling and sledging, with Scnapps to keep everyone warm.
For something that everybody can join in and enjoy, I take the clients on a gentle candle lit walk around the village, this is always popular, and something you don’t really do back at home.
Froliche Weihnachten!
